I met Joyce in 1965/1966 at the University of Iowa. She was working as a waitress at a local diner and her favorite song at the time was Dean Martin's 'Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime'. The diner had a jukebox that she had playing that tune regularly. Joyce was funny, happy and full of life but also very honest and committed to making something of herself.
Although I've not seen or heard from Joyce in the past 55 years, she was such a remarkable girl I'll never forget her and I sometimes find that old tune rolling around in my head and think about her. Her life of accomplishment does not surprise me and it's great to hear that she made a family and a career that brought her happiness.
The world has lost a very special person who will be missed.
