Joyce Ann Daniels passed away on October 16, 2020, surrounded by family at her home in Iowa City. She was born on August 10, 1946 to Jack and Bernice Daniels and raised in a large, close-knit family in St. Charles, Iowa with siblings: Jack, Claude, Larry, Julie, Art, Bea and Ed. A lifelong educator, poet and writer, Joyce holds a Doctor of Arts degree from Drake University and taught English at a plethora of institutions around the world including Drake University, Cambridge University, Bilkent University in Ankara Turkey, and Kirkwood. From an early age, with the continual encouragement of her mother, Joyce dreamed of being a writer; a craft she practiced, taught, studied and polished throughout her career. Her award-winning poetry, non-fiction and fiction graced an exhaustive list of national and international publications. Under the pen name jd daniels, she is the author of six published novels, including the Jesse Murphy mystery series. A complete anthology of all her writing is being compiled by her son and will be available in the Spring. (https://www.live-from-jd.com) Besides her passion for writing, Joyce loved to travel, kayak, work on her historically registered homes, spend time with her friends and family, wear hats and laugh. Joyce is survived by her two children: Conrad Jungmann Jr., Danielle Jungmann-Weems, life partner Tom Laughnan, five grandchildren: Lucas, Maya, Gabe, Owen, Lyle; in addition to Jack Daniels, Larry and Sandy Daniels, Art and Linda Daniels, Ed and Peggy Daniels, sisters Julie Daniels, Kay Kline, Barb Daniels, dozens of nephews and nieces, and more close friends than we can count. She was preceded in death by her brother Claude Daniels, sister Bea Gracey, sister-in-law Joyce Daniels, mother Bernice Gates, father Jack Daniels Sr. and father-in-law Cecil Gates.
