(I couldn't get into the condolences section)
Vern and Bonnie were the first couple Mike introduced me to. It was 1972, Mike was in the Navy, they lived in a trailer down at the Koenighain Farm and Mike K. was a baby. I’m sure I’m one of many that could write a book about Vern. He truly was one of a kind.
To keep this short, I’ll tell just a few stories about Vern - after Mike passed away. Most everyone knows that Vern was a good dancer and liked to dance. It was not unusual for Vern to seek me out to dance to “The Dance” by Garth Brooks. Now, when I hear the song, I not only think of Mike, but Vern too (and hold back tears).
My Dad thought Vern walked on water, lol. My parents were watching the girls one Halloween and ran out of candy. Who stops by? Vern. And, gets them more candy. One year Verne left standing corn for my Dad to hunt pheasants in.
I had put an eternal flame on Mike’s grave. I stopped at the cemetery once and Vern was there relighting it. Because of Vern, Jenny probably knows more stories about Mike than I do. He really had a heart of gold. Mike could not have had a better friend. And, they’re probably having a few beers together right now. Vern, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. RIP dear friend, Pat Sedlacek.
To the Koenighain Families:
An Episcopal Prayer
You hold time within your hands, and see it all, from beginning to end. Please keep and carry these precious people in their sadness and loss. Cover them with your great wings of love, give their weary hearts rest and their minds sound sleep. Lord, lift their eyes so that they may catch a glimpse of eternity, and be comforted by the promise of heaven.
We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen
