Obituary of Beverly Colleen Mason
Beverly Colleen Bagge Mason, age 90, of Iowa City, died early morning in her sleep on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Bev was born March 1, 1930 in Fonda, Iowa, the second born of Melvin Albert and Mildred Witter Bagge. She met her husband Charles M. Mason Jr. while they both attended the University of Iowa. It was love at first sight when she saw him on the basketball court and passed him each day going to class. They were married November 18, 1951. Bev graduated from Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines with an RN degree. They spent most of their married life in Iowa City, where Charlie was the Administrative Dean of the Graduate College. They were avid Hawkeye fans and went to most all the basketball and football games, even out to the Rose Bowl.
Bev was very involved in their church, The River Church (formerly Bethany Baptist Church) where she played the piano/organ for 40 years. She was on the board and served as Chairman of the Christian Women’s Club.
She had a love for Jesus that shone through her life, and He was her top priority. After that, it was her husband and family. She daily prayed for her children and grandchildren. She attended all sports, music and drama activities that her kids, and later, her grandkids participated in, and loved every minute of it! She was adventurous, even to the point of riding the Rockin’ Roller coaster with her grandkids at 71 at Disney World! She loved to travel, and the mountains were her highlight, especially the Rockies.
Bev was a faithful, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother. What a legacy and heritage she leaves behind! She will be missed, but those who know Jesus personally will be joyfully reunited with her again one day for all eternity.
She is survived by her children, Jeff Mason and wife Ann of Iowa City: Julie Prihoda and husband Dr. Matt of Washington: Jim Mason and wife Jorja of Iowa City: nine grandchildren: Luke Prihoda (Hannah), Chelsea Elias (Blake), Jordan Prihoda (Kaci), Callyn Roberts (Zach), Kyle Mason, Sean Prihoda, Natalie Nadler (Matan), Michaela Prihoda and Mollie Mason: and two great-grandchildren: Myles and Elyse Prihoda.
Bev was preceded in death by her faithful husband, Charlie of almost 65 years and her sister Shirley Gardner.
