Obituary of Stephen E. Beemer

Stephen E. “Steve” Beemer, age 72 of North Liberty died Thursday, February 22, 2021 suddenly at his home. Services celebrating his life will be held at 3pm Saturday, March 13th. at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where there will be a period of visitation from 1pm until service time on Saturday. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to support causes important to Stephen. Stephen Edwin Beemer was born November 17, 1948, in Mitchell, South Dakota, the son of D.W. “Dunk” Beemer and Irene (Larrinaga) Beemer. Their family moved to Iowa City where Stephen attending Iowa City Community Schools, graduating from City High School with the Class of 1967. At City High he lettered in football and wrestling, which landed him a scholarship at Gavilan College in Gilroy, CA. here he received an Associate of Arts degree and further received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Iowa University. Steve moved to California, after he graduated and stayed there after college. He was a natural born salesperson, a people person to the “T”. He worked in autos sales there for many years, He was married to Kim Berger from 1983-1987 and started a family there. After nearly 20 years he returned to Iowa City where he continued in auto sales for a number of different dealers over the years. Steve enjoyed much in his life, the outdoors, art, music, boxing, martial arts, tennis, reading, and animals. He was a true artist. His knack for conversations was known throughout California and Iowa, he could talk to a total stranger, before you knew it they were best friends. Very well read and intelligent about most anything allowed him to befriend so many! His family includes two daughters (the light of his world), Michelle Beemer and Angela Beemer; one grandson Cruise Stephen Calderon and another joining the family very soon, step-sons, Aaron and Robert Vandenbulke; Stephen’s brothers, Raymond Beemer (Pat), Richard Beemer (Trina) and Thomas Beemer (Lori), numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
