Mary’s life was full of love, laughter and compassion. As a nurse at the University Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for over 38 years she dedicated her life to caring for others. Working in Pediatrics, Urology and Research she helped countless people overcome all kinds of illnesses. The hospitals slogan, “changing medicine, changing lives” was one she took to heart her whole career. Her immense caring and compassionate personality poured over to her friends and family members, always being a source of comfort in times of need.
Her love for others was contagious. The way Mary built and cultivated lasting friendships with old friends, coworkers and even patients was second to none. The love she had for her family was the strongest of all. Her Husband, Son, Daughter-in-Law, Grandson and Grandson to be were the light of her life. Always a proud mother and grandmother not a day went by she wasn’t gleaming with pride. She often claimed she was “born to be a Grandma” and she was the best a little boy could ask for.
When Mary wasn’t spending time with family and friends she could often be found on the golf course with the love of her life, Lee. Married for nearly 40 years Mary and Lee were inseparable. When unable to golf, Mary and Lee could be found cheering on the Iowa Women’s Basketball team at every game.
Her endless love of her friends and family is one that can’t be matched and will be greatly missed.
Mary was born December 29, 1957, in Boulder, Colorado, the daughter of Francis and Jean (nee Mitchell) St. John. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Lee; son, Kirk (Jessica) Eno; Grandson, Barrett Eno; siblings, Francis “John” St. John, Denny (Pam) St. John, Margie Ebert, Jim (Doug Schneider) St. John; brother-in-law, Rex (Kathy) Eno; and numerous nieces and nephews.
