Obituary of Steven Royal Henderson

Steven Royal Henderson (also known as Steve or Bic), was a loving husband, devoted father, and loyal and entertaining friend. He died peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Steve, the son of Jerald and Debra (Mincks) Henderson, was born November 6, 1979, in Iowa City, Iowa. Growing up in Ridgeway, Iowa Steve attended Howard Winneshiek Community Schools graduating in 1998. Steve then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in May 2005. During college, Steve worked several positions that prepared him for his career devoted to bettering the lives of children at the Iowa Department of Human Services as a social worker. Steve married Natasha Marie Wesely on June 2, 2012 and was a devoted husband ever since. Natasha often says Steve spoiled and always took care of her. Steve and Natasha have three children, Amira (13), Easton, (8) and Everett (6); their life together revolved around their children and the many activities they were involved in. Over the years in any given week they would attend ice skating or softball for Amira, baseball and wrestling for Easton, and t-ball and swimming for Everett. The family also enjoyed many adventures including yearly trips to the apple orchard, amusement parks, Iowa Hawkeye football games and trips to St. Louis for Cardinals baseball games. To say that Steve was dedicated to his family is an understatement. Steve was also a loving son and supportive brother to his siblings. Growing up Steve’s parents attended the many sporting events he participated in. They also enjoyed fishing and camping. Steve has always been a spitfire and knew how to push his siblings buttons and this never changed; however, Steve also came to be a rational support to them in times of need. Steve’s outgoing and humorous personality made him a fast friend to many. In his younger days, Steve was involved in many shenanigans that sometimes got him in trouble and always made for good stories. If you were close enough to Steve, you have probably received a meme or gif with your face and his on it. He will be remembered for his love of sports, humor, and making people laugh. In addition to Natasha and their children, Steve is survived by his parents, Jerry and Deb Henderson; siblings: Jodi Henderson, Jack Henderson (Lisa), Lisa Jennings (Scott), and Kevin Henderson (Jan); in-laws: Deb Wesely, Gary and Sue Wesely; Natasha’s siblings: Trisha Munoz (Jen) and Kaden Wesely, and nieces and nephews, Carly, Blake, Lennox, and Olivia. Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, and good friends: Todd Schmauss, Ryan Lewis, and Tony Courtney. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 20, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Iowa.
