To our dear and finest salt of the earth friends the Gehrig family. Our long time Wilmette, IL. next door neighbors (like family for sure) since the 1960’s. We mourn Pat’s loss for sure at this moment. Our grief extends to the entire family now. There are many. However, we also want to celebrate her life of a wonderfully sincere, independent, devoted, kind, authentic, intelligent, and a very hard working woman. Her zest for life, a gentle, unselfish character and a very generous person. She absolutely was so proud of her kids, grandkids and boasted so thoughtfully (not bragging) of them. She did so much, so much. For nearly six decades our family, the Weinberger’s, maintained this special bond and life long, wonderful open relationship with Patricia Ruth Gehrig, and her husband David A. Gehrig Sr. Of course, we also have to include her wonderful adult children Carol, Jennifer, Elizabeth and David Jr. And, Erin her granddaughter of who she was so proud of, and her equestrian accomplishments. It seemed like at many times of being two families who merged together! You see, my deceased mother (1930 - 2018) Joan Weinberger and Pat were “true blue” friends since the time I was a little boy along with my older brother Todd Wine. My father Jay was also in the equation along with their devoted father and Pat’s husband David Sr. Unfortunately, my father and David Sr. passed away at a too early age. In their early 50’s, and not far apart. I wanted to reflect here and draw many of our live’s parallels, but NOT take away from all of the fine important stories of you folks here. Such beautiful memories of Patricia R. Gehrig and her fine family. I will always cherish these forever. My brother and I will never forget, and hopefully many who knew Pat won’t either. I live in Wisconsin which wasn’t far from where Pat later lived after the many years we had in Wilmette, IL. We’d talk regularly about our families along with other fun and interesting topics. I don’t know how else to describe it. I don’t think that we would ever have such special relations and the fond memories of Pat, our family with the Gehrig’s.
