Obituary of Patricia R. Gehrig

Patricia (Pat) Ruth Gehrig, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on August 25, 2021. Pat was residing at Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon in Lisbon, Iowa when she passed. A graveside service will be held on September 3, 2021, at 1 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, Illinois. After graduating high school, Pat attended classes at Lake Forest College. She then worked as a secretary at multiple places including the University of Illinois. Pat later became the secretary/accountant for her husband and father-in-law’s business - Gehrig Landscaping in Wilmette, IL. On the same day of her passing, 65 years ago, Pat married David Allen Gehrig. They enjoyed going to the Florida Keys, skiing in Colorado, and gathering with family and friends, especially on the 4th of July. They were married for 28 years prior to his passing in 1985. Pat loved gardening, skiing, horses, reading books, and antiquing. She was an exceptional cook. She spent many summers when she was young at her grandmother’s lake house in northern Wisconsin and had many fond memories of those times. Surviving Pat are her four children, Carol (Steve) Kocmond, Elizabeth Gehrig, Jennifer (Bruce) McDonald, and David (Pamela) Gehrig Jr. She was blessed with eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and seven nieces and nephews. Pat loved all her grandchildren. Pat even took in and raised her grandchild, Erin from an early age as if she were her own daughter. Pat is also survived by cousins Lois Dowhen and Anne Habegger. Preceding Pat in death are her husband, David; mother, Emma Strahs; father, Halvor Juul Sr.; stepfather, Edward Strahs; brother, Halvor (Hal) Juul Jr.; and Hal’s wife Jane. The family would like to thank the staff at Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon and Care Initiative Hospice for their care and loving devotion during her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Pat’s memory to causes that were important to her in her life; the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or a charity of your choice.
