Obituary of Betty Marie Madden
Betty Marie Shera Madden, 98, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Crestview Care Center in West Branch, Iowa.
Betty was born in Altoona, Iowa August 8, 1924 but spent most of her life in Tiffin, Iowa where she was a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church and attended Tiffin High School. She and Eugene (Stub, “Brother”) Madden eloped to Arkansas on February 20, 1952.
Betty loved to sew and was proud to have mended and put Bowl game patches on Hawkeye football practice and game day uniforms. Her connections were strong with the University as she worked for 36 years for the hospital’s Physical Therapy Department as an aide. One of her hobbies was to play slot machines in Las Vegas, the riverboats in the Quad Cities, the casinos in Tama and Riverside. She loved babies and lived across the street from her best friend Cissy Brown whose family Ralph, Denny, Chris, Pam, and Connie became her second family. As she loved following the British Royal family, especially the weddings, she would have been tickled to know she died the same day as Queen Elizabeth II.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Stub, her parents Gorham and Marie Shera, her siblings Clarence (Wilda) Shera, Roland Shera, Lois (Dale) Miller, and Buck (Arlene) Shera.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
The family requests no flowers, please. Memorial donations will go to Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin where visitation will be Wednesday, September 14 from 1:00-2:30 followed by a brief funeral service. Following service Wednesday, cremation will take place with burial of her ashes Thursday at 12 noon at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Tiffin next to her husband.
