Obituary of Lois Rugger

Lois M. Rugger, age 91 longtime resident of Oxford died Thursday, December 8, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10am Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Homestead, Iowa with burial to follow at the Oxford Cemetery. No visitation is planned at this time, a Celebration of Lois’s life will be held at a later date to be announced. Please attend the funeral services Tuesday if possible. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Homestead or Iowa City Hospice. Lois was born on August 1, 1931, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Louise Niebuhr. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1949 and got her BA at UNI (ISTC) in 1953. She taught one year at Tipton School, then along came Bill and they got married in Cedar Rapids on March 19, 1954. They were blessed with a wonderful family, Bob in Heaven, Pam and Mac, Jeff and Judy, Richard and Sue, and Brad; four grandchildren, Kelly (Ryan) McLarney, Brooke (Anthony) Walls, Michael (friend McKenzie) and Chad Ambrose; great grandchildren, Cooper Walls, Wyatt Ambrose and baby girl Walls on the way! She is also survived by one sister-in-law June Huffman and family, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends. Leading the way to heaven were Lois’ parents, Bill’s parents, son, Robert; sister, Nadine and husband Bill Boots; niece, Susie Boots and nephew, Curt Alexander. Lois was a member of St. John’s Church, Homestead, Iowa. In between raising five children Lois helped Bill in his veterinarian practice for many years and in her spare time she managed their property. Lois enjoyed many things. She loved watching all sports and attended Iowa football games for 50 years. She enjoyed card club, golfing, gardening, hosting New Years Eve parties, laughing and cooking for the clan. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Keystone Place for their loving care, and the many caring doctors, Iowa City Hospice, and all of her friends and family for their prayers, love and support. V.G. Mom Lois was an extraordinary woman of strength and character who was admired and respected by all who knew her. She adored her family with the ability to love everyone unconditionally and was a role model who instilled the value and importance of family. Lois will leave an everlasting imprint in the hearts of all who loved her.
