Obituary of Donna Rae Jensen

Donna Rae Jensen, age 92, longtime resident of Brown Street in Iowa City died Friday, March 15, 2024, at Lantern Park Nursing Care Center under hospice care for heart disease.

Donna Rae Callies was born February 22, 1932, in Titonka, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Mary (Pierchalski) Callies. She was united in marriage to Dwayne L. Jensen on March 21, 1950, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. The couple moved from Titonka to Iowa City in 1951, later purchasing their first and only house in Iowa City in 1957 on Brown Street. They both had lived there up until their deaths.

Donna enjoyed much in life, fishing, gardening, NASCAR and watching professional football, not only having her favorite teams, but players and drivers! She was known to have been addicted to the food channel, always on even while a resident at the care center. But nothing was more important than her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the epitome of “Grandma” taking them fishing, attending all their sporting events, music concerts and performances. The great grands were often treated to lunch and ice cream, man could Grandma Donna spoil them!

Her family includes her children, Judy R. Quigley, Kevin L. Jensen (Michelle), Roxanne M. Schomers (Rus), and Susan Insko (Steve); grandchildren, Scott Jensen (Jennifer), Sarah Heinrich (Mike), Dr. Chad Jensen, Nicole Jensen, Nathan Schomers (Emily), Alex Schomers (Sarah), Melissa Schomers (AJ) and Riley Insko; great-grandchildren, Kendall Jensen, Kyler Jensen, Maddox Jensen, Tessa Heinrich, Callie Heinrich, Michael Heinrich, Elliott Schomers, Owen Schomers, and Theodore Schomers; one sister, Marilyn Parsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
